Window glass repair & replacement
Broken panes, fogged IGUs, cracked single-pane originals. Most common call we get. Glass-only pane replacement typically runs $150 to $450. Frame stays put, cost stays down considerably.
Single-pane · Double-pane IGU · Triple-pane · Low-E -
Shower glass & sliding doors
Framed ($400–$900) and frameless ($800–$2,500) enclosures. Alberta Building Code Section 9.6 mandates tempered glass in all shower applications. Not a suggestion. We only ever install code-compliant glass.
Framed · Frameless · Tempered (ABC §9.6 required) -
Commercial storefront glass
Smashed storefronts are a security breach and an image problem. Both sorted fast. Replacement runs $1,000 to $5,000 per window depending on glass spec, dimensions, and frame system. Office partitions and commercial door glass too.
Storefront · Partitions · Doors -
Emergency glass repair
Broken glass has no respect for business hours. A residential break-in at midnight or a storefront hit over a long weekend needs the same response. Same-day board-up, replacement scheduled when glass is ready.
24/7 · Board-up · Same-day -
Custom glass
Glass tabletops, shelves, cut-to-size panels, mirrors, backsplashes. If it needs to be cut to a specific shape or dimension and fitted into a home or commercial space, that's squarely in our wheelhouse.
Tabletops · Mirrors · Cut-to-size -
Bay windows & specialty
Bay windows, bow windows, skylight glass, patio door glass. More involved than a standard pane swap. Careful measuring, the right glass specification, and someone who's done a few hundred of them. We cover them city-wide.

Calgary is rough on glass.
No other Canadian city stacks these stressors the way this one does. A sealed unit that lasts 20 to 25 years in Winnipeg or Halifax is typically showing seal failure at 12 to 15 years here.

−30°CWinter lowsthermal stress every cold-snap accelerates fogging to year 12
Chinook cycles are the main reason. A front rolls in, temperatures jump 20°C in a matter of hours. Environment Canada has documented this as the leading cause of thermal stress cracking and accelerated seal failure in Calgary’s double-pane units. The glass and frame expand at different rates, the edge seal takes the strain, argon escapes from the gap over time, and moisture creeps in. That is when the fogging shows up.
Add −30°C winters and the UV intensity at this altitude and you’ve got glass that genuinely earns its replacement. One bad hailstorm in July can take out multiple panes across a property. We’ve seen it across every quadrant, every summer.
Pre-1990 homes (Brentwood bungalows, Glamorgan split-levels, original Varsity single-panes) are running glass well past service life. Late-90s and early-2000s builds in Signal Hill and Cranston are hitting the IGU-failure bracket now. We’ve replaced hundreds in these exact areas. The failure patterns get familiar fast.
Repair the glass, or replace the whole window?
Most callers want an honest answer to this before they decide anything else. Most calls we get, the frame is perfectly fine and the glass-only route saves the customer significant money. We look at the frame first, then give you a straight recommendation.
- A pane is broken or cracked and the surrounding frame is structurally sound.
- Your double-pane unit is fogged: condensation between layers confirms the seal has failed. New IGU, same frame.
- You want to upgrade from single-pane to a double-pane insulated unit for better thermal performance.
- The frame itself is rotten, warped, or structurally compromised.
- Window hardware (locks, cranks, mechanisms) has also failed and isn’t worth keeping.
- You’re renovating and want a different window style or configuration entirely.
Not sure which yours is? We’ll tell you on site, no charge.
A glazier who only does building glass.
Specialisation matters in this trade. Splitting time between auto glass and building glass makes you competent at both. Doing one well gets you very sharp at reading frames, speccing the right unit, and handling the details that make installations last.

Serving Calgary
Across NW, NE, SW, SE and the downtown core. We know the housing stock: which 1980s subdivisions still run original aluminum-frame single-panes, which Beltline towers use commercial glazing, what hail season does to SW-facing windows in Springbank Hill.
Communities served include Tuscany, Rocky Ridge, Auburn Bay, Mahogany, Brentwood, Varsity, Signal Hill, Cranston and more.

Proguarantee
Backed in writing
Every installation is backed by a workmanship guarantee. If the install isn’t right, we come back and fix it. No back-and-forth needed. The glass unit also carries the manufacturer’s warranty on material defects.
“Calgary windows go through more thermal stress cycles in one year than most Canadian cities see in three. You have to spec the right glass, prep the rebate properly, and seal it correctly. Shortcuts always show up, usually in January.”
Lead glazier, Great Choice Glass
How it works.
Pretty simple process. No online portals or multi-day wait times for a callback. Just a phone call, a site visit, and a quote. Then the work gets done.
-
1
Call or email, a rough description is enough.
What kind of glass, what happened, where on the property. Ring (587) 956-4284 or email greatchoiceglass@gmail.com. We pick up live and schedule the visit.
-
2
On-site measure & honest quote.
Glazier measures the opening, checks the frame, identifies the right glass type (single pane, sealed unit, tempered, Low-E, laminated, whatever the job calls for) and gives you a price before anything is ordered. No surprises on the invoice.
-
3
Glass sourced or cut to spec.
Standard residential glass is usually ready within a day or two. Specialty orders (argon-filled Low-E units, large commercial panes, thick tempered panels) depend on the spec and take longer. We give you a realistic timeline before anything is ordered.
-

Install: clean, sealed, guaranteed.
Old glass removed, opening prepped, new glass fitted and sealed, site left clean. Single-pane jobs usually wrap in one visit. Sealed unit and frameless shower jobs take two. Backed in writing when we leave.
What this actually costs.
Real ranges from actual Calgary jobs, not national averages that don’t apply here. Cost factors: glass type (float, tempered, Low-E, laminated, argon-filled IGU), pane dimensions, access difficulty, and any frame prep needed before glass goes in.

Great Choice Glass was recommended to us by one of our tenants to replace 2 pieces of store front window glass in another strip mall. Residential window glass repair runs $100–$600 depending on what’s needed. Glass-only pane replacement costs $150–$450 for a standard size. Sealed double-pane (IGU) replacement is $200–$600 per unit. Shower doors start at $400 framed. For a full breakdown see our glass repair cost Calgary guide.
-
In most cases, yes. The glass gets replaced and the frame stays. A fogged double-pane is a failed seal, not a failed frame. New IGU goes into the existing frame opening, properly sealed. Faster, cheaper, and less disruptive than pulling the whole window.
-
No. Great Choice Glass is fully mobile. The glazier comes to your home or business, measures on site, sources or cuts the glass to spec, and returns to install. Nothing needs to move from your end.
-
Worth it in most cases, especially if the sealed unit is being replaced anyway. Low-E glass has a thin metallic coating that reduces heat transfer 25 to 50% compared to standard float glass, which matters on a −30°C night. It also reduces UV transmission in summer, protecting flooring and furniture. Modest upcharge, pays back over time. We’ll tell you honestly whether it makes sense for the specific window before you commit.
-
Most Alberta home policies cover sudden glass damage from break-ins, hail, and accidental impacts. Gradual seal failure or age-related deterioration usually isn’t covered. Check your policy under glass coverage or accidental damage clauses, and factor in your deductible before deciding whether to claim. We work with whatever approach you choose.
-
Single-pane jobs are usually finished in one visit lasting under an hour. Double-pane IGU replacements need two visits: one to measure, one to install once the glass arrives, typically a few days apart. Commercial and frameless shower jobs depend on the spec. Same-day assessment available across Calgary.
